Are You a Victim Of Cyber Stalking?

Are You a Victim Of Cyber Stalking?
It is funny, in a sad way, that no matter what form of communication we use people can find negative uses for it and find ways to make other peoples lives hell. Now with the 'always on' world that we live in it is becoming increasingly easy for people to get to you for good and bad purposes.

Maybe it is the apparent anonymity of text messages, emails and chatrooms that has fuelled the sharp increase in cyber-bullying in recent years? I mean in a face to face situation the person usually has to have some power over you, being bigger than you, being higher up in an organisation, or being in company when you are not. All those are situations where a bully will start to emerge and stalk their prey, but behind the electronic shield of modern communications then it could be a 11 year old child who is bullying an adult!

Yes that's right, it is not just children who are victims of cyber-bullying, adults are just as susceptible if not more (due to adults having accumulated more problems they want to take out on people). A recent survey by i-SAFE inc shows 42% of kids have been bullied online and 58% of kids have been subjected to hurtful communications online, so the figure for adults may be even higher…

So what can you do? Nobody should be subjected to any sort of harassment in my opinion and should not even have to try and avoid it, but if you do need to then there are methods you can use.

The first technique is to change your details, change your email address, change your chatroom name, change your mobile number or house phone number, this should prevent that person from contacting you. Of course they can identify you again, from your messages, or try and find out your new home number etc, even worse, they could spread malicious information about you all over the internet in frustration.

The second technique is to try and get some official sources involved. Contact the chatroom owners, if the perpetrator contacts you via email go to their email provider or internet service provider, even better, go to the police! Of course none of these may be able to, or be willing to help, so in steps technique number three…

The third technique is to fight them on their own ground, did you know you can hire a Private Investigator to trace email addresses, phone numbers, even identify withheld or blocked numbers that keep calling you? With that information in hand you can then set about getting the police involved or just take away their anonymity, if you let them know that you are aware they live just three doors up from you then they will probably stop for good!

You either fight or flee, either way can work, but do not let the bullying continue by stubbornly refusing to let it affect your life and change your details or seek help, the psychological strain is just not worth it.

The author has over 10 years experience in tracking down and identifying cyber criminals. He has expanded and developed these internet tracing skills into the areas of catching cheating spouses online and locating runaway kids or dangerous bail jumpers with only an email address or screen name.

Click the "Save" button to put your new settings into effect.

Once this setting is saved, go back and open your email and you should view the headers.

AOL Mail:
If the email is sent from anywhere OTHER then AOL, and you are receiving it in AOL, then open the email you want to trace, or have your client open the email, and look for the link Details. Preferred method: Click on the "View" menu, then "Page Source," (ctrl-U in windows, meta-U in UNIX,?-U on the Mac) then copy the contents of the window (Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C windows).

Old versions: Click on the "View" menu, then "Headers," then "All."
Note: This method will not work correctly with HTML.

Eudora:
Note: Using the cut and paste to the web form method is the only option available to Eudora users.

Eudora for the Mac:
Open the email and click the button on the upper left hand corner of the message.
This shows the extended headers. Select the whole message including headers and paste.

Eudora for the PC:
There are 2 slightly different methods depending on whether the mail contains HTML or not.

To prepare for HTML email you should turn off the use of Microsoft's HTML viewer.
Click Tools, then Options, then Viewing Mail.
Uncheck the box labeled "Use Microsoft's viewer."

How to know if it's HTML mail:
Open the email and look near the bottom of the headers (see below for revealing headers) for a line like the following:
Content-Type: text/html
You can frequently spot HTML email because it does not look like plain text. It usually has some font effects (like bold or underlines), some graphics or pictures. It’s not always true so you have to take a quick look at the headers.

Eudora for the PC - non-HTML mail:
Double click on the subject line to open the email.
Click the button to reveal the headers.
Place your cursor anywhere in the body of the email and select the entire message (Edit/Select All or Ctrl-A)
Copy the entire email (right click and click copy OR Ctrl/C OR Edit/Copy)
Paste (right click/paste or Ctrl/V).

Eudora for the PC - HTML mail:
Open the email and click the button to reveal the headers.
Highlight the headers only. Copy and paste the headers.
Hit enter twice after the pasted headers to force a blank line after the headers.
Back in Eudora window, place your cursor anywhere in the body of the message and right click and click "view source". A new window will open.
In the new window, select all (as above) and copy the contents of the new window.
Ready to Paste

Pine:
If the feature is enabled, you simply press "H" to toggle full headers. If the feature is not enabled, you must enable it first: From the main menu, press (S)etup, (C)onfig. Scroll down about 40 lines to the option labeled "enable-full-header-cmd." Press [ENTER]. Press (E)xit, (Y)es - to save. Then you can return to the message window and use "H" to display the headers.

Lotus Notes (v.4.x and v.5.x):
Open the email, click on "Actions" then on "Delivery Information."
Now you have to pick out the internet-style mail header information from the window that appears when you select Delivery Information.

Lotus Notes v.4.x:
Look for the first line that begins with "Received". There should be a blank line just above it. Then, scroll down to the next blank line. The stuff in-between the two blank lines are the headers you need.

Lotus Notes v.5.x:
Look for the separator line that reads
-------- Additional Header ------.
Select everything from there down to the next separator line, usually
-------- Routing Information ------
The stuff in between the two separator lines are the headers you need.

Lotus Notes v.5.x (easier method):
Open your inbox
Highlight the message that you wish to get header information for.
Choose File -> Export...
Type in a filename, leave the type as "Structured Text" and click Export
From the Dialog Box that comes up, choose "Selected Documents" and click OK
Now you can open that message you saved in WordPad and Cut and Paste it.

Pegasus Mail:
In the New Mail or other folder window:

Right click the message, and select Message Properties.
In the right hand column uncheck the box beside Contains HTML data.
Click OK. That should allow you to see the message as a text message only.
Click Ctrl-H to bring up the full headers.
Another way:

Highlight the HTML in the new mail folder
Open a new email message
Drag the HTML onto the new message
In the dialog that appears select "Show All Headers"
Highlight the entire message and then copy to clipboard
Ready to Paste

Claris Emailer - Version 2.0 and higher:
Use the "Show Long Headers" option in the "Mail" menu while you have the message open.

Claris Emailer - Versions earlier than 2.0:
Click the blue triangle near the "from" information to show additional message information, then click the "Show Original Headers..." button to bring up the full header info.

E-Victims Counts Ten Most Common Online Scams for 2009

According to E-Victims, the total number of Internet scammers offering illicit cheap credit, together with phony online retailers using classified advertisements to cheat bargain seekers into parting from their money, is expected to escalate particularly high. E-Victims provides advice and support to people becoming victims of cyber-crime.

The company said that in 2009, 'phishing and identity theft' would be the topmost scam group as the underground market trading in financial data is well rooted. Criminals attempt to steal users' personal data with various techniques like hacking, phishing and abuse of social networks.

Further, spyware and virus threats that are everywhere would form the second most prevalent scam and users would virtually not be able to know whether or not they are accessing a malware-infected website.

At number three, according to E-Victims would be lottery or advance fee or Nigerian scams that have been here for years, and are still flourishing.

Moreover, job and work in residence scams would be the fourth biggest online scams that too have been around for years. However, growing unemployment would mean that more scams would take place that would attack vulnerable job hunters.

In addition, spoofed/fake websites would increase, with domain hijacking, phishing and forum postings being the criminals' techniques to draw users onto their bogus sites. These fake online sellers offer big deals, or items that are virtually impossible to find to draw in victims. The company named these threats as the fifth most common scam.

Debt consolidation and loan scams that had been growing throughout 2008 are likely to continue in 2009 and would be spammers' sixth favorite technique to extort money.

Besides, auction and classified ad scams, holiday themed scams, as well as ticket scams would be the seventh, eighth and ninth most prevalent scams respectively. Thus, to catch new victims, scammers would continue using Internet classified ads, or the topic of credit-crunch biting on holiday expenses. These are the ways in which some too-good-to-be-true deals are advertised. Criminals would also present fake tickets for events like festivals, concerts, football games etc.

Finally, scams with social networks would be the tenth top scam in 2009.

How to Catch a Cheater - 5 Best Ways

How to Catch a Cheater - 5 Best Ways

Too many marriages have come to a grinding halt due to the cheating of a spouse. At first, the innocent party will likely be in denial, out of fear of facing the truth. Eventually, that denial transforms itself into looking for ways to catch a cheating spouse so there will be incontrovertible proof. Here are a few ideas on how to catch a cheater.

1. Follow them - This may sound sneaky, but it is one way to catch your spouse cheating while in the act. Either you can follow them yourself, or get someone else to do it for you (a trusted friend or private investigator).

2. Check the numbers - In today's society, there are numbers for just about any transaction. Some people refer to this as a 'paper trail', and an easy way to catch your spouse cheating. Looking into credit card statements and phone bills can give clues to what your spouse is doing when they are not with you.

3. Go through their pockets - Finding a hand-written note that says "call me", a motel receipt, or a phone number written in lipstick are a few tell-tale signs that your spouse is having an affair. If you're worried about looking distrustful this can be done under the guise of doing their laundry for them.

4. Check their email - If you have a safe way to secretly read your spouse's email, then this can be a good way to find written evidence of cheating. A good tip is to check all of their email folders as they may be trying to hide the email messages from their lover. You may want to hire a PI to do a forensic examination of the computer to recover deleted emails and pics.

5. Online activity - Tracking down which sites your spouse visits and is registered at (such as pornography, dating, or singles sites) can help to nab them, too. This can be done by installing key logger software on your spouse's computer. Unfortunately, you can only install it on the computers you have physical access to. Another choice is to get a professional to do a check of the sites they are registered at. This is as easy as it is effective. All you have to do is provide your spouse's email address and they do the rest. Find out their secret dating site ads, MySpace page, and porn or escort service sites

Trying to catch your spouse cheating can be an emotional struggle. Guilt, denial, blaming yourself, and hatred are just a few of the feelings most people experience. Ultimately, it's better to make sure one way or the other, and that's why getting a professional on your side makes a lot of sense.
